Annunciation has many community outreach programs. We welcome your participation and support!
Parishioners provide the facilities and staff for an annual Red Cross Blood Drive. Volunteers provide life-saving blood, assistance, and registration, and help Red Cross personnel where needed. They also assist with the refreshments following the blood donation, and help with loading and unloading the equipment vehicle. For more information, contact Ann Hillmeyer.
Through the Meal-A-Month Program the parish provides meals for the poor. Once a month, yellow bags with a menu for a meal are passed out after Sunday Masses. The parishioners return these bags to the back of church. These bags are then distributed to area food kitchens. For more information or to help with the bag or food distribution, contact Carolyn Cotta, 314-968-2135.
The whole parish gets involved with seeing that needy children and families have a Merry Christmas. Four local agencies serving the needy are the recipients of your generosity. Our Ladies Inn, St. Vincent de Paul, South Side Day Nursery, Feed My People, and Birthright distribute our food and gifts. Most of the agencies direct the gifts to the parents to give to their children because they may not be able to give their children gifts at this holiday season.
On the second Tuesday of the month, the Annunciation Parish provides the salad to accompany a meal for the homeless served at St. Patrick Shelter. Lettuce, dressings and salad fixings are donated on the Monday before the second Tuesday for transportation to St. Patrick's. School supplies, blankets, men's clothing are also collected at different times of the year. Volunteers are always needed. For more information contact Marty Useted, 314-961-2505.
The Funeral Lunch Committee is volunteers who provide a luncheon after the funeral of a parishioner. There is no charge for this service but donations are accepted. Those interested in donating their time to this ministry should contact Cathy LaBarge, 314-968-0757, or Trish Sinner, 314-962-5960.
This group is involved in monthly bandage making for home cancer patients. Members tear, fold, roll and do simple sewing on bandages. Volunteers and white sheets are always needed. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am in the Parish Center. For more information contact Cathy LaBarge, 314-968-0757.
This committee works for protection of the unborn and supports all life issues. Parishioners may participate in the Pro-Life Day of Prayer, organizing Birthright "showers" for women experiencing crisis pregnancies, organize raffles and other fund raising events to help support "Our Lady's Inn", a home for women who are pregnant and homeless. An annual highlight is participation in the "Life Chain." For more information contact Mollie Lucchesi, 314-918-1658.
We are a service ministry to the homebound members of our parish. We offer companionship, prayer and simple assessment of needs. Holy Communion may also be made available. We work with the individual(s) to find other parish ministries which may be of assistance to them. We hope to affirm their importance to our parish family by requesting their ongoing prayers for our pastor, parish and our larger community. All Visiting Companions are compliant with the Protecting God's Children requirements. For more information, contact Kay Hoelting, 314-962-4599.
