Our parish of Annunciation has experienced some great changes over the past 60 years. Together, we are a strong community doing great things to build up the Kingdom of God. Additionally, we constructed a glorious gathering space for before and after Mass, built one of the best gyms in our area, and collaborated to form Holy Cross Academy, the Catholic school system of the future. But what if we created something that was spiritual, beautiful, and financially supplemental?
A spiritual garden with outdoor Stations of the Cross located on the west side of the church behind the existing Memorial Meditation Garden.
This project fulfills three goals for our parish. The first goal is spiritual by providing parishioners, students, and others in our community with an outdoor place of prayer and meditation. There will also be benches positioned with beautiful plantings to provide places for times of peace and reflection. The second goal is beautification and community. The beautification of the parish grounds demonstrates our sense of community to both our family of parishioners with the personalized bricks and our neighborhood of Webster Groves through the grounds improvement. This will also create an even stronger bond of our parish community as the garden is constructed and maintained by our own parish members. The garden will also be handicapped accessible. The last goal is financial by providing an ongoing source of income to supplement the parish reserves and fund upcoming capital needs.
The path through the garden will be made of 4"x 8" or 8"x 8" bricks that can be purchased to honor or memorialize loved ones and friends, commemorate life milestones, or donate to your alma mater. In addition, the 14 stations and benches will be available for sponsorship by individuals or groups. 100% of your donation is tax deductible.
I am excited about The Way of the Cross Garden project. It fulfills a dream I have had for quite some time - to provide an outdoor garden for the Stations of the Cross. I am grateful that the Women of Annunciation (WOA) is spearheading this project and share my excitement for what it will mean for our parish community. As with anything else in our parish, we cannot do this without you. In what way would you like to help? Clearing and leveling the Garden area? Laying the bricks? Planting the flowers? Who would you like to honor with a brick or a station? The majority of your donation will be tax deductible. The first order for personalized bricks will be due May 27, with the plan to break ground by late summer 2014. However, since this is an ongoing project, orders may submitted at any time.
We know that together we can make The Way of the Cross Garden a prayerful place for all to find peace, joy, and beauty, not just for us today, but for our future parishioners and students to come!
